2016 Audi Q5 2.0t vs 3.0t

Audi is well known for its unique style and the power of its vehicles, but it also is known for the variety of choices its gives customers when it comes to models within a certain category. With that in mind, today we compare how the 2016 Audi Q5 2.0T fares against the 2016 Audi Q5 3.0T.

In recent years, the Q5 has solidified its place among the best sellers in the small Sport Utility Vehicles category. Part of that is due to the model’s versatility and the variety of trims it is available in. While most of the features and some specs of the Q5 line stay the same in both 2.0 and 3.0 lines, there are still several differences between the models attractive for people looking for a new SUV in 2016.

The first of those differences lies under the Q5’s hood. The lighter and more economical 2016 Audi Q5 Quattro 2.0T Premium Plus has a 2.0 Liter Intercooled Turbo Premium Unleaded I-4 engine powering its every move. That I-4 can make 220 horsepower and 258 net torque.

Its counterpart, the 2016 Audi Q5 Quattro 3.0T Premium Plus has a 3.0 Liter Intercooled Supercharger Premium Unleaded V-6 engine under the hood. A good deal more powerful than the 2.0 version, this V-6 engine can push the Q5 to 272 horsepower and 295 net torque.

In order to make up for the loss in performance, however, the 2.0T takes the crown in fuel economy. The Q5 Quattro 2.0T Premium Plus has and estimated fuel consumption rating of 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The Q5 Quattro 3.0T Premium Plus, on the other hand, consumes an estimated 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

A pair of trims with similar fuel economy numbers between the two lines are the Q5 Quattro 2.0T Prestige Hybrid and the Q5 Quattro 3.0L TDI Prestige. Both trims have the same estimated fuel consumption rating driving in the city at 24 mpg, while the 3.0L has a slightly better performance on the highway, consuming an estimated 31 mpg against the hybrid’s 30 mpg.

The engines also have a mixed performance when compared to one another. The 2.0T Prestige Hybrid is powered by a 2.0 Liter Intercooled Turbo Gas/Electric I-4 engine that can make 245 horsepower, five more than the 240 horsepower provided by the 3.0L TDI Prestige’s Intercooled Turbo Diesel V-6 engine. Nevertheless, the TDI Prestige’s engine can reach 428 net torque according to thecarconnection.com, towering above the Prestige Hybrid’s 354 net torque.

Pricing rankings are also split between the two lines.  All but one of the 2.0Ts are cheaper than the 3.0T trims; Starting with the 2016 Audi Q5 Quattro 2.0T Premium and the Q5 Quattro 2.0T Premium Plus, both starting at $40,900 and going all the way up to the 2016 Audi Q5 Quattro 2.0T Prestige Hybrid starting at $52,500.

On the other side of the spectrum, the 3.0 trims start with the Q5 Quattro 3.0T Prestige and the Q5 Quattro 3.0T Premium Plus with the price tags starting at $46,000 and finish with the Q5 Quattro 3.0L TDI Premium Plus and the Q5 Quattro 3.0L TDI Prestige starting at $48,100.

  1. I was hoping to read about how the car drives with the differences in engine size. I gave a 2.0 litre audi and when I am cruising in France at 130kmh… Slow down in traffic to 110kmh the car insists on dropping down gears when getting back upto speed… Doesn’t seem that efficient to me. I want to know if the 3 litre does the same.
