4 Benefits of Remote Car Starters

The features on modern cars have changed significantly over the past several years. One of the best features is a remote control car starter.  Not all vehicles come with this option, however, with only minor modifications a remote control starter can be installed on almost any type of vehicle. The remote starter is operated through an electronic key fab that you can easy attach to your key ring. The most obvious benefit of having a remote starter is being able to start your car without having to go outside, but there are also a number of other great benefits that come with having a remote starter.

Good for the Engine

When it’s cold outside, driving without warming the engine can be hard on the motor. Warming up the engine allows the oil to warm up, which provides better lubrication throughout the motor. It is especially important to warm up older models of cars and trucks with a diesel engine. Whether you are heading out for the day or going home at the end of a long work day, you simply push the start button on the remote control and you can warm the engine before driving.

I’m sure you’ve heard the sounds that your car makes when you start it up and take off during those chilly winter months. While you can just hop in and drive when it’s cold, that engine sure does sound better once it’s had a chance to warm up. It’s kinda like when you work out and you need to warm up those muscles before you really get the heart pumping.

Security and Safety

One of the best benefits of a remote car starter is that you can start the car without leaving the keys in it, which makes it safe and secure against theft. It also makes it safe to drive during the winter when there is snow and ice on the windshield. Simply set the defrost beforehand, start the car and the snow and ice will be defrosted before you come outside, so there is no more scraping and no more driving with poor visibility because you didn’t have time to scrape the windows before driving.

Honestly, when I lived in downtown Columbus, Ohio having one of these in my car was really a God send since I didn’t have to stand around in the cold dealing with the frost on my windows. It’s not that Columbus is particularly dangerous, but you never know when someone with bad intentions might be hanging around just waiting to do harm to you. And really, better safe than sorry is always a good mantra to live by.

Pre-Cool or Pre-Warm the Interior

One of the best reasons to have a remote control car starter is that it allows you to get into a warm or cool car. During the cold season, simply leave your heater in the on position and by simply pushing the start button, you can begin warming up the inside of your car before you even get out of bed in the morning. The concept applies to cooling the interior during the hot summer months. When you leave the air conditioning on, you can start the car and get into a cool car, which is especially nice for vehicles with leather seats that can burn your skin after the sun has beat down on them all day.

Of course, if you have a garage then you probably don’t need it for this particular reason. I remember when I first moved to Dallas and my apartment complex didn’t have any covered parking. Those summers were brutal, especially since my car has leather seats. So, you better believe that once that lease was up, I set about finding myself a new apartment that had a garage. I went to UMoveFree and told them that a garage was at the top of my list of needs and they found me an awesome Las Colinas apartment with a garage.

Boost That Resale Value

A remote car starter may increase the re-sale value of your vehicle, especially if you live in an area with extreme changes in the weather conditions. Installing a remote starter on your vehicle may be one of the least expensive modifications that you can do, yet it will provide a useful selling point, whether you are selling to a private individual or doing a trade in at a car dealership. If you did not purchase the vehicle with a remote starter already installed and are considering installing one, there are a number of styles and price ranges to choose from and installation is typically an easy DIY project or you can have it installed by a local mechanic.

These are just some of the reasons why you should consider adding a remote starter system to your vehicle. I think you’ll also enjoy the convenience that it brings to your life once you get it installed.

  1. My sister is considering a remote car starter. I was wondering how these would be helpful and I loved what you said about how it allows you to pre-cool or pre-warm the car. Living in an area with wild weather, it would be extremely nice to be able to get into a cozy car set to just the right temperature. Thanks for the informative article.

  2. My brother is selling his car soon. He’s looking fore ways he can raise the value of his vehicle to ensure he gets top dollar. I didn’t realize car remote starters can increase the value of your car if you live in areas with inclement weather. I’ll be sure to share this info with my brother.

  3. I didn’t realize that starting the car early was actually good for the engine, though I can see how it would be good for the engine to have that better lubrication, as you said. My husband and I are considering getting a newer model car with a push-button car key, and I like the increased security that you say they come with. Leaving the car keys in while warming up the car has definitely been a concern of mine, as you said, so being able to remotely start the car from a distance would for sure fix that.

  4. Thanks for pointing out that you can keep your car safe from thieves when you consider remote car starters because they will allow you to start the car without the need to leave the keys in it. I’ll share this with my husband because he always leaves his valuables in his car. He said that there are times that he leaves his laptop in his car. To give him peace of mind, I’ll be happy to let him know that he can have a remote car starter installed.
