An air suspension system in a vehicle gives a driver more control over the car’s functionality, as well as a smoother ride.
The system consists of two major parts – the compressor and the air springs (bellows).
When a vehicle needs more clearance or increased buoyancy to handle the bumps and grooves in the road, air can be pumped into the springs to lift the chassis higher off the axle and to absorb more shock from the ground.
Air suspension is a common upgrade in off-road vehicles, but comes standard in some (higher-end) rides meant for the road as well.
1 – Audi Air Suspension
Audi has an adaptive air suspension system available as an upgrade on many of their vehicles.
(On some of these vehicles, the package upgrade to sport air suspension is free.)
But it also comes standard on a few models, typically on high-level trims.
These models include the:
- Audi Q7 Prestige (SUV)
- Audi SQ7 Premium Plus (SUV)
- Audi Q8 e-tron Premium (SUV)
- Audi SQ8 Premium Plus (SUV)
2 – Mercedes AMG Air Suspension
Mercedes performance vehicle division – AMG – has an air suspension system called AIRMATIC that comes standard on all of their models.
These models are:
- Mercedes-AMG A-Class (Sedan & Hatchback)
- Mercedes-AMG C-Class (Sedan, Hatchback, Coupe & Convertible)
- Mercedes-AMG CLA (Hatchback & Coupe)
- Mercedes-AMG CLS (Coupe)
- Mercedes-AMG E-Class (Sedan, Hatchback, Coupe & Convertible)
- Mercedes-AMG EQE (Sedan & SUV)
- Mercedes-AMG EQS (Sedan)
- Mercedes-AMG G-Class (SUV)
- Mercedes-AMG GLA (SUV)
- Mercedes-AMG GLB (SUV)
- Mercedes-AMG GLC (Coupe & SUV)
- Mercedes-AMG GLE (Coupe & SUV)
- Mercedes-AMG GLS (SUV)
- Mercedes-AMG GT (Coupe)
- Mercedes-AMG S-Class (Sedan)

3 – Volvo Air Suspension
Volvo outfits its two higher-level XC models with standard air suspension.
These models are:
- Volvo XC90 (SUV)
- Volvo XC60 (SUV)
Notably, the Volva XC40 does not come standard with air suspension.
4 – Land Rover Air Suspension
Land Rover also has some models on which air suspension comes standard.
At Land Rover, these models are the:
- Land Rover Range Rover
- Land Rover Range Rover Sport
- Land Rover Discovery
5 – Tesla Model S & Model X
And last but not least, alf of Tesla’s current models have standard adaptive air suspension.
The two models are:
- Tesla Model S
- Tesla Model X
The company’s upcoming Cybertruck, which claims to have “more performance than a sports car” will also come with adaptive air suspension standard.
Now, we don’t know how above and beyond a sports car the Cybertruck will actually be, but outfitting it with standard air suspension is a pretty good start.
